Realistic Ephemera Danica Nymph
Hemingway’s Realistic Ephemera Danica Nymph is a super realistic-looking imitation of this insect, masterly designed and tied using premium quality Hemingway’s realistic fly tying materials. This fly pattern has the shape, size, and coloring of a real Ephemera danica mayfly nymph, the long, slim, ribbed body, three pairs of segmented and flexible legs, and the characteristic, three short tails. The intricate details on the back further enhance the life-like appearance of this fly. Flexible legs and dubbing at the bottom add to the authenticity of the fly and provide the ‘movement’.

Fishing Ephemera Danica Nymph
Ephemera danica is one of the most common mayfly species. It is usually found in clean waters, unpolluted rivers, and lakes. As with other mayflies, most of their life is spent in the nymphal stage, normally about two years, in warmer climates for about one year, and in colder up to three years. As nymphs, they can grow to about 1.2 inches in length (3cm). Ephemera danica nymph is a burrower type of mayfly nymph who lives in fast-flowing streams with a grave and sandy bed. They dig tunnels into the gravel, form a tubular burrow, and then use their gills to force the water through these burrows, by waving back and forth to create a current over their backs. This is where they feed, by filtering organic debris. They emerge in the spring migrating to the shallower water. When they start their journey towards the surface in order to hatch is when they are most vulnerable.
Fish can find burrowers when they come out of their hiding – to eat or during hatch times. To fish burrowers, drifting along the bottom would be your best bet. Due to their size – they are a tasty meal for the trout that rarely gets passed.
