Hemingway's Tube Body Caddis Pupa
Tie realistic caddis pupa patterns quickly with lightweight, ready-made tube bodies.
Hemingway's Tube Body Caddis Pupa is a ready-made fly tying material designed to create lifelike caddis pupa patterns with less time at the vise. Made from premium dubbing fibers, these hollow bodies closely imitate the natural curved profile of a caddis pupa while remaining soft, lightweight, and easy to work with.
The hollow construction traps air, giving the body excellent buoyancy for floating and emerger patterns. Each body features a darker lower section that mimics the natural thorax of an emerging caddis, adding a subtle but realistic detail to the finished fly.
Ready to use straight from the package, these tube bodies make tying faster and more consistent while leaving plenty of room to customize your favorite caddis pupa patterns.
Each pack contains 10 bodies.
Available in: Gray, Pearl White, Light Yellow, Tan, Green, or Yellow.
Caddis Pupa and Emerger Fly Fishing
Caddisflies are aquatic insects that undergo a complete metamorphosis, progressing from egg to larva, then pupa, before emerging as adults. Most species complete this life cycle within a year.
Of all these stages, the larval stage is the longest. Many caddis larvae build protective cases from silk combined with small stones, sand, twigs, or other debris, while some species remain free-living until it's time to pupate. These free-living species are especially important to fly anglers because they spend much of their lives exposed on the river bottom, making them a regular food source for trout.
As the hatch begins, caddis pupae leave the bottom and drift upward through the water column while transforming into adults. During this ascent, they're vulnerable, largely unable to control their movement, and become easy prey for feeding trout.
To imitate this behavior, fish caddis pupa and emerger patterns high in the water column with a natural dead drift. Just before the end of the drift, a slight lift, twitch, or gentle swing often imitates the final struggle of an emerging caddis and can trigger confident ta
