Sculpin Heads
Hemingway's Sculpin Heads are realistic 3D tungsten heads designed for tying lifelike sculpin and other bottom-dwelling baitfish patterns. Modeled after the head of a real sculpin (Cottidae), they accurately reproduce the shape, proportions, and distinctive features of one of the most important prey fish found in rivers and streams.
Made from heavyweight tungsten alloy, these heads help streamers sink quickly and stay close to the bottom, where sculpins, gobies, and other bottom-dwelling fish naturally live. The weight distribution also helps the fly ride hook point up, reducing the chance of snagging while fishing over rocks and structure.
Each head can be further customized with permanent markers to match local baitfish or add additional detail. The head is fitted after the fly has been tied—simply apply a strong waterproof adhesive behind the hook eye, slide the head into place, and leave approximately 2 mm of clearance behind the eye for the best fit.

Sculpin Streamer Fishing
Sculpins spend most of their lives hugging the riverbed, hiding among rocks, gravel, and submerged structure. Because they are poor swimmers and rarely move far from the bottom, the most effective way to fish sculpin patterns is to keep them close to the streambed.
Allow the fly to sink before beginning the retrieve, then use short strips, pauses, and occasional bottom contact to imitate the darting, stop-and-go movement of a real sculpin. These patterns are particularly effective for larger trout, bass, and other predatory fish in rocky rivers and streams.
