Latin name: Pyrrhocoris apterus Family:Pyrrhocoridae Firebug (also known as Stainer, orPyrrhocorid Bug) is a terrestrial bug usually found in groups of tens or even hundreds and residing on sunny side of tree trunks where they feed on tree seeds, fruits and cotton plant. Firebugs have a very characteristic red and black coloring. Their size ranges from from 8 to 18 mm.

On smaller streams fish are depending mostly on terrestrials as their food source. Small waters dont have the high-energy riffles where the aquatic insects spend much of their lifecycles.
