Silicone Caddis Pupa Bodies with Hooks
Tie realistic caddis pupa and emerger patterns in just a few simple steps.
Silicone Caddis Pupa Bodies with Hooks combine a segmented silicone body with a high-quality hook, giving you a ready-made foundation for tying lifelike caddis pupa and emerger patterns. Simply add your preferred dubbing and finishing materials to create an effective fly without having to build the body from scratch.
Each body is molded from durable silicone and finished with a clear protective lacquer that enhances durability while creating the natural, slightly translucent appearance of an emerging caddis. The realistic segmentation, authentic colors, and balanced weight help produce convincing patterns that fish naturally throughout the water column.
These bodies are equally suited for tying floating emerger patterns with buoyant materials or subsurface pupa patterns that imitate caddis during one of the most vulnerable stages of their life cycle.
Each pack contains 6 silicone bodies with hooks.
Available in four proven colors: Light Green, Brown, Green, and Smokey, and four hook sizes: #10, #12, #14 & #16.
Caddis Pupa and Emerger Fly Fishing
Caddisflies are aquatic insects that undergo a complete metamorphosis, progressing from egg to larva, then pupa, before emerging as adults. Most species complete this life cycle within a year.
Of all these stages, the larval stage is the longest. Many caddis larvae build protective cases from silk combined with small stones, sand, twigs, or other debris, while some species remain free-living until it's time to pupate. These free-living species are especially important to fly anglers because they spend much of their lives exposed on the river bottom, making them a regular food source for trout.
As the hatch begins, caddis pupae leave the bottom and drift upward through the water column while transforming into adults. During this ascent, they're vulnerable, largely unable to control their movement, and become easy prey for feeding trout.
To imitate this behavior, fish caddis pupa and emerger patterns high in the water column with a natural dead drift. Just before the end of the drift, a slight lift, twitch, or gentle swing often imitates the final struggle of an emerging caddis and can trigger confident takes.
