Sculpin Heads
Sculpin Heads from Hemingway’s are 3D models of a real sculpin (Cottidae or cottids) head, made from tungsten alloy to give extra weight to the streamer. Perfect for patterns that imitate bottom-dwelling fish species – sculpins, baby catfish, gobies, etc. The heavyweight of the tungsten alloy ensures that your streamer will sink quickly in faster-moving rivers and drop close to the bottom, where sculpins typically reside. Each head, being a true replica of the real thing, has the exact shape, proportions, and details, making it irresistible to the predatory fish out there. Heads are weighted in such a manner so the streamer will swim hook-up, which avoids snagging. They can be easily painted with a marker to add more authentic details.
The head is mounted at the end of your tying after the fly is finished. Glue the head in place using super-glue or any other strong, water-resistant glue, epoxy glue also works. Apply some super-glue behind the hook’s eye, then slip the head on. Make sure to leave some space behind the hook’s eye, about 2mm.
