How to Fish Stonefly Nymphs
The main technique when stonefly nymph fishing is to try to imitate the natural behavioral drifting of real insects down the bottom of the stream and keep the fly on the trout’s eye level. Drag-free dead drifting along the bottom is the best option. Start with an upstream short cast to allow the fly to drop to the bottom, then dead drift down the current until it starts lifting up to the surface. Extending the drift downstream as long as possible would pay off. Using a strike indicator is recommended as it can greatly help in identifying the action.

Before using this product I absolutely hated tying stone flies. Fiddling around with turkey tail wing cases drove me nuts and made me dread sitting down to fill my boxes. With the Hemingways Realistic stonefly buds and backs I no longer have any problem sitting down to tie a dozen nymphs to stock my boxes for trout and steelhead. These buds and backs are easy to use, durable and really make the fly pop and look amazing.

These buds and backs are absolutely FISH FOOLERS. Someone’s video suggested using crazy glue on the buds. If that tickles your fancy, ok, but try thick CA (crazy) glue from a woodworking retailer. It will stay on top of the dubbing. However, wait for it to dry. The accelerator removes the graphics.
