Czech Nymph Fly Fishing – Czech Nymphing
Czech nymphing (also known as Polish nymphing or European nymphing), originated in the middle and eastern Europe, is a highly effective nymphing technique that was, until recently, only used within Europe. There are a couple of things that make this technique so successful. First, this is a short distance fishing, with distances just a bit longer than the length of the rod, and with very short lines. Two or three, heavily weighted nymph flies are used. These can be imitative or brightly-colored or a combination of the two – to attract more fish. For Czech nymphing it is imperative to have the flies properly weighted so they drop to the bottom right away, but not too heavy so they are dragged across the riverbed. The technique lies in letting the flies free drift down the current and along the river bottom. Usually during the very end of our drift, when the flies start slowly rising from the bottom is when we have the most success. Czech nymphing can be utilized all year round.
