Adams XTZ Euro Nymphing Rods 2wt
Feel the Difference
Coming from the Adams Fly Rods family of highly praised fly rod builders, Adams XTZ is definitely a real masterpiece when it comes to top-of-the-line Euro nymphing rods. This amazing rod combines sensitivity and power in a perfect balance and is a perfect choice for Euro nymphing experts, as well as for all those aspiring of becoming one.
XTZ rods come in two different lengths, 10 foot, and 10.6 foot, for line weight #2 with a medium-fast action. “X-TorZion” (XTZ) technology enabled the building of thinner, stiffer, and more lightweight blanks. This innovative technology combines 6 separate ultra-thin layers of high modulus Japanese nanocarbon material, applied at varying angles of 45 degrees which neutralize torque and increase rod performance – this can be felt when casting the line, drifting the nymph, and playing any fish.
XTZ’s main features are increased sensitivity, reactivity, and a perfect balance. The blank has a smooth but very quick tip recovery with a “crisp” backbone. The tip section has enough stiffness for a positive and controlled hook set, while the amazing amount of rod flex will protect the lightest of tippets, even when fighting trophy fish.
Applying the advantages of “X-TorZion” technology (XTZ) into a line of rod blanks, Adams rod builders have opted for a medium-fast action blank, for a deeper flexing blank, enabling the angler effortless, controlled and delicate presentations of even very small, lightweight nymph patterns and great casting when switching to a dry fly setup.
The blank has an unsanded “spiral wrap finish”, as mono rigs can be subject to annoying line stick with sanded and painted blanks under rainy conditions; the spiral wrap finish will counteract this effectively.
In collaboration with CFX, Adams rod makers have designed an innovative carbon fly rod handle with an ergonomically shaped grip and incorporating a natural carbon fiber sparkle and shiny, textured finish. XTZ carbon fiber handles are extremely strong under compression while retaining flexibility.
The carbon handle and spacer have an advantage over the classic cork handle when it comes to Euro nymphing. Euro nymphing techniques require the rod to be extremely sensitive in order to detect even the most cautious bites. Cork being an insulating material by virtue absorbs more energy, thus transmits less resonance from the blank. The “CFX Vibra Core“ material, built into the XTZ handle, is a vibration-amplifying material, therefore making XTZ handles extremely resonance-sensitive. As these braided carbon fibers intensify all vibrations that emanate from the blank, it makes this rod extremely sensitive, gives you more control, and converts into more bites.
The carbon handle and spacer not only fit perfectly into the completely black design of the XTZ rod but are above all functional. This handle looks great and feels even better. The unique ergonomic handle feels great in the hand, is significantly lighter than cork, and is extremely handy, even when wet.
Reel Seat and Fighting Butt
Adams XTZ has a reel seat that closes down to achieve a perfect balance between the reel and the rod. The CNC-milled 6061-T6 aluminum reel seat is sourced from ALPS Rod Components, known for its innovative designs and high-end quality products. The reel seat comes with a CFX Composite Grips carbon fiber insert with the same finish and properties as the XTZ carbon handle.
The signature Adams Balanced Fighting Butt provides extra comfort when playing a fish and acts as a counterweight. As additional bulk was added to the fighting butt, it was of paramount importance to reduce the weight of another important component: the rod guides.
Rod Guides (11 + 1)
XTZ rods use ultra-lightweight, single-foot Black Pearl PVD-finished Recoil Guides, the most lightweight and durable guides available. Recoil guides are made of special, extremely hard-wearing, and smooth nickel-titanium alloy. The inherent physical properties of Recoil guides include extreme lightweight, crucial in building an overall
lightweight tip section, with substantially reduced swing weight resulting in a faster rod recovery, hence less counter flex for optimal casting precision. XTZ has ten single-foot guides and one snake guide placed next to the tiptop guide to help ease the fly line/leader knot through the guides. As XTZ is a pure Euro nymphing rod, rod builders at Adams chose to place the stripping guide just about 20 cm above the handle to reduce line snag to a minimum. With occurring line friction of stiff monofilament lines, Fuji SIC stripping guides have been a gold standard in the industry for over 20 years, reducing abrasion to a minimum.
XTZ rods are well protected in a black, triangular Cordura-covered PVC rod tube with a divider and a shoulder strap.

Adams Fly Rods Product Warranty
Adams XTZ carries a 15-year warranty against the manufacturer’s defects and workmanship for the original owner of the rod.
Adams Fly Rods will, at their option, repair or replace any Adams Fly Rods rod which is found to be defective in material or workmanship. Original owners are asked to complete the online “product registration” form (providing proof of purchase) within 60 days of purchase. All products must be purchased from an authorized Adams Fly Rods retailer to be eligible.
Warranties do not cover damages due to fire, theft, loss, or incidental damage resulting from the use of the product. Unregistered rods being returned, must provide proof of purchase. A repair of non-warrantied damage may be available for a reasonable charge.
Adams Fly Rods reserves the right to repair or replace warrantied products with similar products. Replaced components may differ in color or other cosmetic features. Complete rods must be returned for inspection prior to any warranty claim. Owners are responsible for shipping/insurance costs for returning the rod (duties/taxes for international). This warranty is valid unless otherwise stated on the product.
Service & Repairs
To repair or replace a registered Adams fly rod, there will be a €55 fee (*€85 fee on all high-end rod series equipped with Recoil guides) for any damage that is not directly related to manufacturing defect when the product was purchased. All rods will be inspected by the Adams Fly Rods repair department to determine the cause of breakage. A damaged rod should be placed in its rod tube prior to shipment. Do not send your rod in a custom rod tube. A properly packed standard cardboard protective tube is the best method of shipment to protect it from further damage. We highly recommend that you insure and track all shipments to Adams Fly Rods.
Please contact Adams Fly Rods (email@example.com) prior to returning the product for repair.
